Who we are

A community-led answer to deforestation

EcoQuest is a Zambian registered non-profit founded in 2016. Our mission is to support and empower communities, preserve forests, protect wildlife and reduce emissions — addressing the environmental, social and economic challenges faced by indigenous rural communities amid rapid change from mining activity.

  • Communities across North-Western Zambia sensitised about the program — and consenting to it.
  • FPIC agreements signed by 5 chiefdom communities in North-Western Province.
  • REDD+ project areas identified across 13 chiefdoms — 1.528 million hectares.

What we do

Solutions built with communities

Supporting and empowering communities to preserve forests, protect wildlife and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

Community Engagement

A modular program working at chiefdom level through district partnerships — with documented methodologies built for replication across regions.

Forest Protection

Promoting fuel-efficient cookstoves and beekeeping as alternative livelihoods that ease pressure on forests and protect fragile ecosystems.

Emissions Solutions

Leveraging change in land-use practice to reduce the key drivers of forest degradation and deforestation — and the emissions they cause.

Our approach

Four ways we drive change

01

Land-use planning

We identify and map community areas to understand resources and how best to conserve them.

02

Beekeeping

Training local people in effective beekeeping as a sustainable, forest-friendly livelihood.

03

Carbon

Reducing the community carbon footprint through conservation and better land management.

04

Efficient stoves

Distributing fuel-efficient cookstoves — 5,000 so far, with a target of 30,000 per year.
